The rise of Barack Obama from almost total obscurity to potential leader of the free world in a scant few years is in itself a remarkable phenomenom. He talks great (many would say glibly) but-- is he up to the job? Is his Rock Star attraction the stuff of a real ability or merely a symptom of how all our various institutions have let us down? This is not limited to politics, but also education and media; or perhaps more fundamentally the ongoing cultural assault that began in the 1960's. Is he a real visionary or just another demagogue? Is there any substance behind the glorious rhetoric? If so, just what is it? To many it strikes a deep chord. To others it merely sounds like more socialist platitude from yet another activist. Time will tell. But, in the meantime...change for change sake? C'mon Barry, where's the meat?
